Showcasing 2017's Hottest Trends in Luxury Travel

St Marys Residence continues to showcase 2017's hottest trends in luxury travel.

According to key insights from world-leading companies at the recent International Luxury Travel Market, we're right on trend in providing a global gold-standard in service for the planet's most discerning high-end travellers.

Recently, the elegant French Mediterranean city of Cannes was enlivened by the annual International Luxury Travel Market, and National Geographic published an insightful overview of key trends inspiring luxury travel around the world.

We're thrilled that the trends are closely reflected in the service and experiences we're privileged to already offer our guests at our luxury urban haven in Auckland, New Zealand, and confident they'll also inspire our travel planning partners to provide insightful guidance and personalised service for their own valued clients.

We're also mindful to always challenge ourselves on the level of services and amenities offered by St Marys Residence, and conclude this season's message with news of several exciting new initiatives now available at our private urban lodge, cocooned in one of Auckland's most characterful and elegant historic neighbourhoods.

But first, let's consider the trends driving the luxury travel market.

Backlash Against Luxury

Forget shiny décor and gilt-trimmed bathrooms. It's time to return 'luxury' to its initial and authentic meaning. National Geographic's recent definition is “Something precious, rare, and most importantly, invested in emotional value.”

At St Marys Residence we're focused on providing personalised and emotionally-relevant experiences for our guests, in conjunction with our luxury travel partners. From curated recommendations for Auckland's best restaurants – we'll even endeavour to secure the best table and the finest waitperson in the house – to weaving our guests' favourite songs or artists subtly into the Residence's musical playlist. From check-in through to how we approach housekeeping and The Residence's culinary excellence, our role is to facilitate activities and adventures that inspire and transform.

Experience over Ownership

In the words of Annie Fitzsimmons at National Geographic, “Luxurians no longer want souvenirs. The elite traveller now thirsts for access over acquisition, and experiences over owning stuff.”

This trend is absolutely fundamental to St Marys Residence. As proud Aucklanders, we're committed to showcasing the best of our beautiful city, and we strive to provide privileged access to the finest experiences around the region.

From insider tips and instant access to the city's style leaders, our guests can segue quickly to 'live like a local' while unlocking the very best our city has to offer.

Our nightlife host can accompany guests to the hippest restaurants and bars in the city, while we can arrange a private helicopter flight across to Waiheke Island for a one-on-one 'Behind the Label' experience with Tantalus Estate’s winemaker, Alex Perez, and Frenchmans Hill’s Luc Desbonnet.

From online reviews and social media to guidebooks and blogs, we're bombarded with travel information in the 21st-century. And while choice and options are a great thing, too often the overload of information simply overwhelms.

Matching the excellent services provided by our travel planning partners, we strive to be information filters and knowledge navigators. In the recent words of National Geographic, our shared responsibility should be 'pairing people with experiences'.

Our hyper-personalised approach to luxury at St Marys Residence is to understand our guests through our detailed profiling process, and then to customise local experiences aligned to their personal interests and abilities.

'Small has never been bigger'

Originally coined by the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, this reinforces the growing dynamic of 'ultra-immersion' in a destination.

With our single party reservation policy and flexible accommodation options, including fully, partly serviced or independent style of stay, St Marys Residence offers supreme privacy and security, and also allows families or groups of close friends to enjoy time together, and the luxurious space to reconnect over shared and authentic experiences.

And when our guests are ready to venture beyond The Residence's effortless luxury and local food experiences delivered by our private chef, our intimate understanding of their needs, enables us to provide bespoke experiences throughout the Auckland region.

Family-owned properties

More than ever, travellers are keen to make deep, local connections with the places they're visiting and the people they're meeting. At St Marys Residence, we're both long-term Auckland residents and proud owners of the city's finest urban retreat.

The access to Private Estates, Residences and Islands is indeed becoming a new luxury segment in the ultra high end market. This trend has been picked up by global luxury brand leaders such as Rolls Royce, who recognise the need to deliver "a tailor-made programme of private experiences, blending inspired design and bespoke craftsmanship with effortless luxury."

As well-travelled globetrotters who have been fortunate enough to experience some of the world's finest restaurants and accommodation, we have exceedingly high expectations of personal service.

We also treasure meeting our guests from all around the world, especially when we can pass on our personal recommendations to make their stay at The Residence and around Auckland, a memorable and enjoyable one.

Looking ahead, three new developments promise to make sojourns at St Marys Residence even more distinct.

Spa Rituals

To provide the ultimate answer to overcoming jetlag, we have partnered with East Day Spa, Auckland's premier luxury spa, to design and curate a handful of massage treatments based on ancient Indian Ayurvedic and Balinese rituals. Individual indulgences and couple’s massages can be experienced in the privacy of guest suites, on the rooftop pavilion, or poolside. Luxe, results driven facial treatments by CODAGE Paris, and manicures and pedicures with Margaret Dabbs refined product range are also available.

The Garage Cellar

Already offering complimentary award-winning New Zealand wines and superb craft beers, the Residence's offering has now expanded to include a unique wine-tasting space where some of the world's finest wines are available to enjoy with friends and family. The superb collection includes such iconic wines as Château d'Yquem Sauternes, and New Zealand classics like Stonyridge Larose from Waiheke Island, and Kumeu River's Hunting Hill Chardonnay from rural West Auckland.

Our Endless Pool

Always striving to innovate, we've recently installed a combination swimming/spa pool that is the perfect urban solution for our verdant garden. Along with hydrotherapy jets, the swim-spa system allows guests to continually swim against a broad, deep current that is adjustable for any speed, stroke or ability. It's the perfect option for health-conscious guests to maintain their fitness, or just to take a dip and cool off on one of our sun-drenched terraces.

We're excited about our continued innovation and evolution as New Zealand's most luxurious and private urban stay, and we look forward to welcoming all of you to St Marys Residence.
